Ah, embroidery. My gateway craft drug. Out of all the various attempts to lure me into crafts, the one that stuck first was embroidery. Cross stitch really. I was given a kit to make a Christmas ornament of an angel. I toiled over her every chance I got and then, when she was finished, I insisted on "embellishing" her. Pink circles for cheeks. Metallic thread on the wings. Stars cross stitched in all the blank areas and on her skirt. And there I found the perfect combination: rules to follow so I was "doing it right", but something forgiving enough that I could go crazy and change things around without wasting materials. As I've gotten older, I've certainly branched into lots of other crafts, but sometimes there's nothing like pulling that needle through the fabric and watching a picture appear before my eyes.
